Two miles of US-101 with two of the best destinations on Hood Canal. Lilliwaup is barely a town, but it holds Hama Hama Oyster Saloon and Mike's Beach within a mile of each other. Most visitors drive straight through. The ones who stop tend to linger.
Where to Eat
Two Miles, Two Destinations
Hama Hama Oyster Saloon is the reason to stop — fresh oysters, outdoor picnic tables, and a setting that's impossible to beat. Dogs welcome on leash. Seasonal food and drinks are also available at Mike's Beach Resort during glamping season. Nearest full restaurants are in Hoodsport (7 miles south).
Coffee
Coffee Options
None in Lilliwaup. Stock up in Hoodsport before heading north — there's no reliable coffee stop until Brinnon, another 15 miles up the canal.
What to Do
Oysters, Trails & Tideflats
Beyond the Saloon, follow Hama Hama's newsletter for occasional farm tours and events. Falls View Canyon Trail is a short, dramatic descent into a canyon with a waterfall off US-101 near Lilliwaup — underpublicized and genuinely good. Big Creek Trail is a quiet forest trail off Jorsted Creek Road into the Olympic National Forest — rarely busy. The Lilliwaup tideflats are among the most productive on the canal for recreational oyster harvesting — a Washington shellfish license (around $9/year) is required.
Groceries & Essentials
Services
No grocery in Lilliwaup. Hoodsport (7 miles south) for the nearest market and gas. If you're staying at Mike's Beach, stock up before arriving — you're in genuine Hood Canal wilderness here.
