Gateway to the Olympics. More to do here than the strip along US-101 suggests. The real draw is what surrounds it: Mt. Ellinor, Lake Cushman, Staircase Rapids, and direct access to Olympic National Park — all within 10 miles of the main street.

Mt. Ellinor is the signature hike — big elevation gain, bigger views. Staircase Rapids in Olympic National Park is a 2-mile loop through old-growth Douglas fir alongside the North Fork Skokomish River — one of the most accessible old-growth walks on the peninsula (day-use fee). Lake Cushman is a large reservoir backed against the Olympics, 9 miles west: three boat launch ramps, swimming, kokanee fishing, and over 60 campsites at Skokomish Park. Hoodsport Winery at 23501 N US-101 is open daily 10am–6pm — a working winery with canal views from the tasting room. Potlatch State Park has tideflats and camping just south of town.
