Town Guide

Hoodsport

Gateway to the Olympics. More to do here than the strip along US-101 suggests. The real draw is what surrounds it: Mt. Ellinor, Lake Cushman, Staircase Rapids, and direct access to Olympic National Park — all within 10 miles of the main street.

Restaurants & Bars

The Tides Restaurant & Bar is open 7 days and serves craft cocktails made with Hardware Distillery spirits alongside solid food — the most social spot in Hoodsport. Hardware Distillery makes artisan spirits from Washington grain, honey, and fruit; the tasting room is open Fri–Sun 12–5pm at 24210 N Hwy 101 — worth timing your visit around. Model T Pub & Eatery is famous for pressure-fried chicken and burgers, open daily from 11am. Hoodsport Coffee Company is a full-service espresso café with sandwiches, soups, and baked goods — the reliable morning stop before heading into the mountains.

Espresso & Cafés

Hoodsport Coffee Company is on Hwy 101 near the water — panini, soups, baked goods, and full espresso. Open daily. Hoodsport is the last reliable coffee stop heading north toward Brinnon, so stock up here.

Mountains, Water & More

Mt. Ellinor is the signature hike — big elevation gain, bigger views. Staircase Rapids in Olympic National Park is a 2-mile loop through old-growth Douglas fir alongside the North Fork Skokomish River — one of the most accessible old-growth walks on the peninsula (day-use fee). Lake Cushman is a large reservoir backed against the Olympics, 9 miles west: three boat launch ramps, swimming, kokanee fishing, and over 60 campsites at Skokomish Park. Hoodsport Winery at 23501 N US-101 is open daily 10am–6pm — a working winery with canal views from the tasting room. Potlatch State Park has tideflats and camping just south of town.

Services

Hood Canal Market Fresh at 24151 N US-101 handles grocery, deli, fresh donuts, and gas — open 7am–10pm daily. The nearest pharmacy is in Belfair (30 miles south). Hoodsport is the practical hub for the western shore — if you need something, try here before heading further into the canal.
