Old-growth forest trail near Brinnon, Washington on the Olympic Peninsula

Town Guide

Brinnon

Adventure town. Brinnon is the last real community before Hood Canal narrows toward Quilcene. Small, but it punches above its weight: kayak tours, bioluminescence nights, old-growth hikes, and a rhododendron garden that peaks in May. If you're doing the full canal loop, don't skip it.

Restaurants & Roadside Stops

Geoduck Restaurant & Lounge is the local anchor — Mon–Thu 11am–8pm, Fri–Sat 8am–9pm, Sun 8am–8pm — serving burgers, seafood, and weekend breakfast. Halfway House Restaurant is a true roadside institution: homestyle cooking, hearty portions, and famously good pies and chowders. Pleasant Harbor Dock & Dine at the marina serves gourmet pizza, burgers, seafood, and breakfast daily 8am–8pm — a short detour off US-101 for a meal on the water, and you can arrive by boat.

Coffee Options

Very limited in Brinnon. The Geoduck serves coffee with breakfast on weekends. Stock up in Hoodsport (15 miles south) before heading into Brinnon for the day.

Adventure, Gardens & Old-Growth

Hood Canal Adventures runs kayak and bioluminescence tours from Brinnon — one of the best guided experiences on the canal. Murhut Falls is short, dog-friendly, and a great leg-stretcher. Dosewallips State Park has miles of pet-friendly trails and tideflats to explore. Whitney Gardens & Nursery is 7 acres of rhododendron display gardens just south of Brinnon — peak bloom around Mother's Day, $2 admission. Duckabush River Trail follows the river into the Olympic wilderness through old-growth forest; the first two miles are accessible to most hikers. Mount Jupiter Trail is a summit hike with views of Hood Canal, the Cascades, and Puget Sound — less known than Mt. Ellinor and rewarding for it.

Services

Brinnon General Store handles small grocery, gas, and fishing licenses — the only stop in town. For anything more than basics, plan ahead: Hoodsport (15 miles south) is the nearest town with a proper market.
